Santa Barbara Symphony Continues Its 2024/25 Concert Season with French Connections — A Celebration of French Masterpieces

Internationally Acclaimed David Greilsammer in a dual role as Guest Conductor and Pianist

The Santa Barbara Symphony continues its 2024/25 Season with French Connections, a celebration of three centuries of French musical masterpieces, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at The Granada Theatre. This thematic one-concert-only performance features internationally renowned conductor and pianist David Greilsammer in a tour de force, preceded by “Conversations with KUSC”– a pre-concert chat about the program from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Conducting from the keyboard, Greilsammer will ignite the stage with Ravel’s beloved, jazz-infused Piano Concerto in G. Praised by The New York Times as “one of the most accomplished and adventurous musicians of his generation”– Greilsammer will guide The Symphony audiences through a rich exploration of French-influenced music, spanning from the Baroque elegance of Rameau to the classical refinement of Haydn, and the vibrant modernism of Milhaud, offering the audience captivating journey through centuries of musical evolution.

Greilsammer, a Juilliard graduate, is renowned for his innovative interpretations and passionate engagement with Baroque and contemporary music. His dynamic performances have taken him to leading symphony orchestras and recital halls worldwide, from the San Francisco Symphony to Lincoln Center, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, and beyond.

“When I first saw David Greilsammer perform with the Geneva Camerata, I was deeply moved and knew we had to bring him to Santa Barbara,” said Nir Kabaretti, the Symphony’s Music & Artistic Director. “His spontaneity and creativity as a conductor and pianist will resonate beautifully with our audience.”
Patrons are invited to arrive early for “Conversations with KUSC,” from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. hosted by KUSC’s Classical California on-air personality Jennifer Miller Hammel, who will offer insights into the concert’s repertoire and artist.
