The Santa Barbara Symphony Chorus
Calling All Choral Singers: Join a Bold New Ensemble
The vision for The Symphony Chorus is to open up opportunities for choral singers who may or may not currently be a member of a chorus, uniting the entire choral community in one large chorus under the direction of our very own Nir Kabaretti, Music & Artistic Director of The Symphony.
This dynamic ensemble will debut on April 26 & 27 alongside the Santa Barbara Symphony, singing Johannes Brahms’ A German Requiem at the Granada Theatre.
“Santa Barbara is blessed with several outstanding community and collegiate choral ensembles,” said Music & Artistic Director Nir Kabaretti. “The Santa Barbara Symphony aims to unite singers throughout this vibrant choral community, creating new opportunities for those who may or may not belong to an existing chorus. Together, we’ll form one powerful ensemble, bring Brahms’ masterpiece and more to life!”
Join the Symphony Chorus! To express interest in participating, please carefully review the chorus expectations and rehearsal/performance schedule below. Then, click the apply button below to submit an interest form no later than midnight Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Please note that filling out this form does not guarantee your participation in the chorus. Once all submissions have been reviewed, you will receive a confirmation email. Depending on numbers and balance, you may be called for an in-person audition.

Chorus Expectations
Attendance: Chorus members are expected to commit to being at all calls listed in the rehearsal/performance schedule. ONE absence is permitted. Please notify chorus manager Steven Thomson ([email protected]) in advance if you will miss a rehearsal. *NOTE: Absences are not permitted for concerts or rehearsals with orchestra.
Preparation: Chorus members are expected to commit to substantial individual preparation before rehearsals begin. By being individually prepared on our parts, we maximize our time working as an ensemble. If you find rehearsal tracks useful, there are many available online. We recommend https://rehearsalarts.com/Brahms_Requiem_14.html
Scores: We will be working from the C.F. Peters edition (in German) of the Brahms Requiem. You are welcome to purchase your own copy, but scores will be made available to borrow from The Symphony following registration. All borrowed scores must be returned immediately following the Sunday Matinee performance or incur a fine of $10 per day late.
