The Santa Barbara Symphony is pleased to announce an historic partnership with Carnegie Hall as we combine our Concerts For Young People Program (CYP) with Carnegie’s Link Up program. By partnering, Concerts for Young People will advance its focus on teaching fundamental musical concepts to students in grades 4-6, introducing students to the symphony orchestra, fostering new and existing relationships between the Santa Barbara Symphony and local schools and providing professional development opportunities for all participating teachers along with study guide materials.
“We are excited to continue to welcome over 5000 4th, 5th, and 6th grade children from across Santa Barbara County to attend symphonic concerts designed to inspire, delight and educate.” Stated Symphony Executive Director Kevin A. Marvin. “The partnership with Carnegie Hall is a huge advancement for the Symphony as we continue to grow our educational efforts in the region.”
For more than 30 years, Link Up—a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute—has supported orchestras in connecting with elementary students in their local communities to explore orchestral repertoire and fundamental musical skills, including creative work and composition, through a hands-on music curriculum. Students participating in a Link Up partner program attend a culminating concert with their local symphony where they sing and play with the orchestra from their seats.
Link Up provides a high-quality, year-long curriculum that teachers can implement, along with classroom materials, online video and audio resources, and the professional development and support necessary to make the program an engaging experience for students. The program provides these materials at no cost to students and teachers.

Each year, the Santa Barbara Symphony provides more than 10,000 children in Santa Barbara County with high quality, equal-access music education through its Music Education Center: a pipeline of connected programs designed to support students every step along the way.
