Santa Barbara Symphony Presents Holiday Pops

With leading Broadway music director and conductor Andy Einhorn, UCSB Choirs and Broadway star Christiane Noll

(November 15, 2019) Santa Barbara, CA— The Santa Barbara Symphony kicks off the holiday season with Holiday Pops for one night on Saturday, December 7 at 8:00PM. Led by Andy Einhorn, Musical Director for the Tony Award-winning revival of Hello Dolly!, the Symphony joins forces with Broadway star Christiane Noll and UCSB Choirs for a traditional, heart-warming and family-friendly holiday program. The program includes an audience sing-a-long of popular favorites with songs like “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and “Frosty the Snowman,” with a full program of holiday classics like “Deck the Hall,” “Chanukah Lights” (Marvin Hamlisch), music from A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Sound of Music. About Andy Einhorn

Most recently, leading Broadway music director and conductor Andy Einhorn served as the Music Supervisor and Musical Director for the Broadway productions of Carousel and the Tony Award-winning revival of Hello Dolly! starring Bette Midler.

This season, Einhorn is scheduled to conduct concerts with the Baltimore, St. Louis, Santa Barbara and South Dakota Symphony Orchestras, and over the summer, Einhorn lead performances of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music at Aspen Music Festival, and concert performances of South Pacific at both Aspen Music Festival and at Blossim Music Festival with The Cleveland Orchestra.

Einhorn’s previous Broadway credits include Holiday Inn, Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Evita, Brief Encounter, The Light in the Piazza, and Sondheim on Sondheim. Einhorn served as music director and conductor for the Châtelet Theatre’s production of Sondheim’s Passion in Paris and has twice led the New York Philharmonic conducting for Audra McDonald and Chris Botti, respectively.

Since 2011 Einhorn has served as music director and pianist for Six-Time Tony Award-winner, Audra McDonald, performing with her at such prestigious orchestras and venues including The New York Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, The Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Opera, Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall and Teatro Real, Madrid. Einhorn has also music directed for Barbara Cook at Feinstein’s and Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music.

Einhorn’s tour work includes Sweeney Todd, The Light in the Piazza, Mamma Mia!, and The Lion King, and the current touring production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Einhorn has worked at Goodspeed Opera House, Signature Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and PaperMill Playhouse. He was principal vocal coach and pianist for Houston Grand Opera’s “An Evening with Audra McDonald,” a double-bill of Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine and LaChiusa’s Send.

Recording credits include Audra McDonald’s “Sing Happy” with the New York Philharmonic, Carousel featuring Renee Fleming, Hello Dolly! featuring Bette Midler, Bullets Over Broadway, Cinderella, Evita, Sondheim on Sondheim (Grammy Nom) Stage Door Canteen and McDonald’s Go Back Home. He served as music director for HBO’s Peabody Award-winning documentary Six by Sondheim and music supervisor for Great Performances Peabody Award-winning special “Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy” on PBS.

About Christiane Noll

Soprano Christiane Noll recently starred in the record-breaking First National Tour of Dear Evan Hansen, and received Tony and Drama Desk award nominations and won a Helen Hayes award for her portrayal of Mother in the Kennedy Center Revival of Ragtime. Other Broadway and National Tour appearances include Elf, Chaplin (Drama Desk Nom.), Urinetown (Ovation Award), The Mambo Kings (pre-Broadway), It Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues, Jekyll & Hyde (FANY award), Grease, Miss Saigon, and South Pacific (Australia/Thailand). Ms. Noll was also featured in NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood.

Christiane has been a frequent guest soloist as part of Bravo Broadway with symphony orchestras in almost every state in the USA, with international appearances around the globe. She made her Carnegie Hall debut with Skitch Henderson in his last pops performance with The New York Pops and sang with Steven Reineke in “Sondheim! the Birthday Concert” at Carnegie Hall. She made her Hollywood Bowl and O2 Arena debut singing with Dame Julie Andrews in “Gifts of Music” and her opera debut with Placido Domingo in The Merry Widow at the Kennedy Center. In addition to NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music, her film and TV credits include Law & Order SVU, Madam Secretary, The Good Fight, and The King & I (Singing Anna – Warner Brothers Animated Feature). Solo Recordings include A Broadway Love Story, Live at the West Bank Café, The Ira Gershwin Album, My Personal Property and Gifts – Live at 54 Below.

UCSB Choirs: Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus

Conducted by Maxim Kuzin, the UCSB Chamber Choir is an outstanding ensemble of music majors and students from other disciplines drawing from the finest singers on the UCSB campus. Specializing in virtuosic a cappella choral music from the Renaissance to the 20th century, the Chamber Choir has collaborated with the Ericson Chamber Choir from Stockholm, Madrigalchor Kiel from Germany, the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, the Santa Barbara Symphony, and the Asia-America Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles. It was featured in a 3-hour Swedish television documentary on the legendary choral master, Eric Ericson, and at the Ascending Voice II festival at Pepperdine University in 2010. The Chamber Choir presents quarterly concerts in downtown Santa Barbara and has twelve CD recordings to its credit.

A dynamic group of music majors and non-majors, the UCSB Women’s Chorus is conducted by Kelly Newberry Guerra and draws its membership from many departments across the UCSB campus. The Women’s Chorus performs the main repertory for women’s voices, including a cappella and accompanied works, often with unusual combinations of instruments. It has been
featured on four CD recordings with the UCSB Chamber Choir, including Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. The ensemble shares its concerts with the UCSB Chamber Choir at the beautiful Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Santa Barbara.
