Rach on State
Santa Barbara, Show Us How You Rach & WIN!
The Santa Barbara Symphony is teaming up with Pianos on State, organized by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative, for #RachOnState, a playful community-wide challenge inspired by Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 2.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED?
- From October 1–19, find a Pianos On State painted piano (see map)
- Sit down and make Rachmaninoff your own.
- Play the featured passage (Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2) or any excerpt from Rachmaninoff. Put your own spin on it. Record your performance (at least 30 seconds, no more than 2 minutes). Share it on Instagram or Facebook
- Tag us @SBSymphony (IG) or @SantaBarbaraSymphony (FB) and use the hashtag #RachOnState.
LET'S RACH!
Kicking things off on October 1 at 5 PM: Maestro Nir Kabaretti shows us how he Rachs at Piano #4 (Anapamu & State).
Then things get a little unexpected! On October 2, The Symphony joins Mas(q)parade for a whimsical piano performance parade from 5:30–8 PM. Catch a lineup of dynamic acts popping up at Pianos on State—including our own Noelle Hadsall at 6 PM on Piano #3 (State & Victoria). She’ll Rach with Rachmaninoff, swing into Bach, and add a little Ella Fitzgerald flair.
Then, it’s Rach Hour! Come find The Symphony at a Pianos on State piano and Rach-It LIVE with us! Play, improvise, duet—or DUEL! We’ll be there recording the fun, and everyone who participates during Rach Hour will be automatically entered into the #RachOnState challenge for a chance to be featured on our social media.
