The Symphony ‘sings’ happy birthday to Beethoven through his very own Fidelio heroine, Leonore, and his supreme achievement, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. From the overture and choral finale from his two-act opera Fidelio to his groundbreaking use of voice in Beethoven’s ninth and final symphony, we celebratevthis beloved composer with an “Ode to Joy” during an opening week not to be missed!

November, 2020

A gentle Serenade by Santa Barbara’s own Robin Frost; Piano Concerto in F by George Gershwin, who straddled the boundaries of popular and ‘serious’ music with his very own jazz-influenced classical style. Florence Price’s debut Symphony, the first by a black woman to be performed by a major American orchestra, and a suite by Aaron Copland from his ‘cowboy ballet’ Rodeo. The Symphony weaves a musical tapestry through these four composers in tribute to American Modernism.

January, 2021

The title Spanish Guitar is but a hint of the riches in store for you in this musical journey planned for January featuring multiple GRAMMY Award-winner guitarist Sharon Isbin and the Symphony led by Spanish conductor Josep Caballé Domenech. The Symphony brings the rich cultural and musical heritage of Spain and Latin America to life through this exquisite selection of music that is sure to delight.

February, 2021

Spring of 2021 brings a groundbreaking and epic collaboration between the Santa Barbara Symphony and State Street Ballet to mount a fully-staged and modernized musical production of Kismet. With music adapted from pieces composed by Alexander Borodin, Kismet tells a fantastic tale of poets and beggars, of beautiful daughters and handsome rulers, of clever criminals, punishment, and true love.

March, 2021

Gilles Apap returns to perform with the Symphony, where he served as our concertmaster for a decade. Hailed as a true violinist of the 21st century by Yehudi Menuhin, Gilles has built an international reputation for combining musical styles as diverse as old-time American, Irish, and Gypsy fiddling within the construct of the classical repertoire.

April, 2021

Singin’ in the Rain – the greatest musical of all time, according to the American Film Institute, with a legendary cast including Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. Darlings of the silver screen attempt to transition from silent film to “talkies” in this romantic comedy, experience it as never before, projected on the big screen with live orchestral accompaniment.

May, 2021

Gustav Holst’s The Planets is an epic work that takes the listener on a majestic journey through the solar system. Each movement represents a planet visible from earth at the time of composition and inspired by its astrological character. We then travel amongst the stars with John Williams’ Star Wars Suite, supremely suitable as many of our symphony musicians played on the original soundtracks of these beloved films.

June, 2021

The Beatles come to life in Revolution, a symphonic tribute to the Fab Four, featuring top vocalists and full orchestra. Revolution takes audiences on a magical musical journey of one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time. Featuring favorites like “Yesterday,” “Ticket to Ride,” “All You Need is Love,” “Get Back,” “Hey Jude,” “Come Together,” “Got To Get You Into My Life,” and “Here Comes The Sun.”
