Holst: The Planets
Ravel: La valse
John Williams: Star Wars Suite
Gustav Holst’s The Planets is an epic work that takes the listener on a majestic journey through the solar system. Each movement represents a planet visible from earth at the time of composition and inspired by its astrological character. We then travel amongst the stars with John Williams’ Star Wars Suite, supremely suitable as many of our symphony musicians played on the original soundtracks of these beloved films.
The enormity of the universe revealed by science cannot readily be grasped by the human brain, but the music of The Planets enables the mind to acquire some comprehension of the vastness of space where rational understanding fails.”
John Williams’ score for Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was the beginning of the modern American film score.”
