Symphony to Partner with Carnegie Hall

The Santa Barbara Symphony is pleased to announce an historic partnership with Carnegie Hall as we combine our Concerts For Young People Program (CYP) with Carnegie’s Link Up program.  By partnering, Concerts for Young People will advance its focus on teaching fundamental musical concepts to students in grades 4-6, introducing students to the symphony orchestra, fostering new and existing relationships between the Santa Barbara Symphony and local schools and providing professional development opportunities for all participating teachers along with study guide materials.

Geoffrey Rutkowski (May 1, 1941-July 31, 2019)

Geoffrey Rutkowski was a cellist; he played with passion, warmth and love. He adored his students, his colleagues and anyone with whom he could play chamber music. He loved to play, to teach, and, with his Matteo Gofriller cello which he acquired in 1976, was known for his gorgeous rich sound that carried from the stage to the last row.

The Santa Barbara Symphony is honored to welcome Allen Mask to the Board of Directors. Mask, who currently serves as Chief of Staff to the CEO and Vice President of Product Marketing and Collaborations at Sonos is committed to supporting the Arts in Santa Barbara by joining the Board and supporting the Symphony’s programming with a special emphasis on the Symphony’s Education initiatives.

Symphony Announces Janet Garufis as President of the Board of Directors

Santa Barbara, CA. (March 2019) – The Santa Barbara Symphony is excited to
announce the election of Janet Garufis as President of the Board of Directors. Garufis
will succeed outgoing President Don Gilman, and step into this leadership role on July
1, 2019.

“The Symphony is part of the fabric that makes our community great,” shared Garufis.
“We all cherish and honor the traditional and inventive programming that only a live
classical music performance can provide. Our job, moving forward is to continue to
work to stay relevant, reach broader audiences and create a truly sustainable
