Camerata String Ensemble

In the Santa Barbara Symphony Youth Ensembles, students learn how to play in an ensemble while they strive to improve their individual playing skills. 

Camerata String Ensemble

Level: Beginner
The Camerata String Ensemble is comprised of string players (violin, viola, cello, and double bass) who are early in their musical training. It introduces students to the basics of ensemble playing, following a conductor, and listening across a musical group while playing. Students in the Camerata String Ensemble have at least one (1) year of experience on their instrument (either in a group setting or private lessons). 

2019-20 Tuition

Tuition fees cover the cost for the 2019-20 season. Scholarships are available and information regarding these can be found on the application form. Admitted musicians will not be turned away due to finances. If tuition presents a challenge, please reach out.

Audition Requirements

Camerata String Ensemble

Students auditioning for Camerata String Ensemble should have at least one (1) year of experience on their instrument (either in a group setting or private lessons). 

  • Fill out the application form (available in English and Spanish).
  • Prepare the following:
    • One-octave major scale and arpeggio: A, D, C, and G (or) Two-octave major scale and arpeggio: C and/or G
    • Solo piece or excerpt (2 minutes in length) which best demonstrates the student’s skills
    • Sight reading, as decided by the conductor
