Santa Barbara Celebration

Our season-long celebration of Santa Barbara’s creative forces continues!

January 23, 2021

This program begins with a piece written by local composer Joel Feigin (Professor Emeritus of Composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara) and continues with spotlighting some of the many superstars within the Symphony.  Designed to enjoy in person at The Granada Theatre, or in the comfort of your living room. For this special comeback performance, maestro Nir Kabaretti leads a cadre of Santa Barbara Symphony musicians and soloists through a program that highlights the musical talents of our Santa Barbara community. Our symphony orchestra musicians are superstars in their own right who have performed on Academy Award winning soundtracks, received top honors in the industry, and played with internationally renowned artists and orchestras. While only one or two of our orchestra musicians might normally be highlighted as a soloist during a normal concert season, this year we are lucky enough to able to shine a spotlight on several of our musical wunderkinds. Beginning with a piece written by local composer Joel Feigin (Professor Emeritus of Composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara) and including favorites by Vivaldi, Chopin, and Mozart, this concert is designed to let our musicians shine.

Pianist Natasha Kislenko has been hailed for her “vividly expressive” interpretations and “virtuosity that led the audience exhilarated,” (Santa Barbara Independent). Ms. Kislenko made her Carnegie Hall solo recital debut after taking the Grand Prize at the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition in 1996. A prizewinner of several international piano competitions, Ms. Kislenko has extensively concertized is Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and across the Americas. In addition to a successful performing career, Dr. Kislenko has been a dedicated educator and mentor to the the next generation of aspiring musicians and joined the faculty at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2007.
